WEATHER CONDITIONS - PICNIC DAY 2017
Temperature: Sixty-eight degrees. The Post-Gazette reported that the humidity on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. was 54%. It was not our most perfect day for a picnic. Hurricane Harvey had hit the coast of Texas the weekend before our picnic causing widespread flooding and heavy damage in Texas. We received the northern wave of rain from this hurricane. It was cool in the morning with a heavy shower early while we were trying to get things set up. But the rain quit and the skies brightened up. We set up the check-in desks inside the pavilion in case of rain later in the day. How lucky we got! The sun actually came out for a little while. We had clear weather for our program and for our lunch. All things went well, but started to look a little dark, cool, and windy by mid-afternoon. We had our Share the Wealth drawing at 3:00 p.m. We had five winners, 4 for $100 each and one for $50. It didn't take long after everyone checked their tickets to see that bad weather was very near the park. Many left soon after the drawing. It rained again as we were cleaning up and loading equipment. Some of us got wet again, but we were happy that all had lunch and a chance to see old friends again, even if it was for a little while. The Orange and Black celebrated another happy day together. Our Clairton Bears!
